Supernatural Fic Recs - For Stardustgifts
I feel bad for being one of the reasons you’re so distracted, but you leave such sweet and encouraging comments on my stories, I’m kind of not at the same time…? Bad influence. That’s me.
The first Supernatural fanfic I ever read was 300 Things by cautionzombies on AO3. The summary is as follows:
Dean’s life at twenty-four makes him feel like he’s forty—he works two jobs to help pay bills for his house and put his genius little brother through private school, and has spent six years (on and off, let’s be honest) working on his mechanical engineering degree at KU. With so much of his life devoted to his family, Dean has little time in his schedule for class and no time for social interaction. Then, while getting his classes together for the fall, he finds himself in a do-or-die situation: He must take his last literature class now, his spring already filled with those left for his major…except that none of the English classes will fit his schedule.
This is how Dean grovels and begs Dr. Castiel Milton to make a special arrangement for him, and Dr. Milton does.
I love this fic like nobody’s business. I’ve always had a soft spot for AUs and this one, while still staying true to the characters, is perfect. Dean is his prickly self and so fiercely independent. Not necessarily because he wants to be, but he has to be. He’s so focused on juggling work and school and caring for his family, it’s a wonder he hasn’t keeled over from the load of it all. Castiel too. He’s polite to a fault, but he makes his share of snarky and sarcastic comments.
From the very first moment they really sit down and talk to each other, they form a connection that deepens as the story progresses and it’s so beautiful that it hurts my heart a little. They bring out the best in each other and help each other with their problems. The way Cautionzombie writes them and their trust for one another is so devastatingly wonderful. I highly recommend this story.
Actually, I recommend most of the fics Cautionzombie has written, but another favorite of mine is Take Me In. There’s some major spoilers for the series, so I don’t want to give too much away, especially if you aren’t very familiar with the series. But it’s written so well though and Castiel’s true form and…Guh. It is amazing. I really hope you get the opportunity to read it.
Let me know what you think of them!
